Inspired by the recent sad passing of the remarkable actor Leonard Nimoy, ‘Live long and prosper’ is the first part of a two piece tribute based around the character of Mr Spock.

The starting point for this piece was a desire to pay a unique tribute to a unique actor. We knew it had to include the iconic face of Mr Spock and have a ‘space’ feel to it and ideally include something quintessentially Spock! What unlocked the design was the discovery that Star Trek fans had actually developed not just a fully functioning Vulcan dialect (Spock’s natural language) but had developed a calligraphic version which we thought looked beautiful.

A little further research and we had been able to translate the definitive Spock greeting of “Live long and prosper” into Vulcan calligraphy. It was then that we decided to do a second companion piece entitled, “Peace and long life” which as Star Trek fans will know, is the appropriate response to ‘Live long and prosper’.

The Vulcan calligraphy is as ever completely cut by hand and then sprayed in acrylic paint. The urban spray art background comprises a hand sprayed space scene and also includes a separate hand cut papercut of Spock’s face although in this case, used as a spray template. The result is a truly innovative and original papercut work of art.

Signed by the artists, ‘Live long and prosper’ is a genuine 1/1 comprising original hand cut, papercut mounted on an original urban art acrylic painting. Along with its companion piece, ‘Peace and long life’, it is part of a unique two piece work of art. The finished piece is back mounted on archival quality mountboard and framed in in a black, custom-made solid wood box frame.
